Referrals to speech and
language pathologists are made when there are concerns
regarding slow or limited communication development in
children, cognition, difficulty with word finding, errors in
speech sound production or for augmentative alternative
communication needs.
Speech therapist in IPH works with clients who present a
wide range of issues. In case of children with
mild / moderate / severe learning difficulties, physical
disabilities, language delay, specific language impairment,
specific difficulties in producing sounds, hearing
impairment, cleft lip and palate, stammering, autism/social
interaction difficulties, dyslexia, voice disorders and
selective autism.
They work on adults with following problems :
• Mental health issues
• Learning difficulties
• Stammering
• Physical disabilities
• Hearing impairment
• Voice problems head, neck or throat cancer
• Communication or eating and socializing problems following
neurological impairments and degenerative conditions
including stroke, head injury,
parkinsonism and dementia.
Speech and language pathologists collaborate with other
health professions often working as part of a
multidisciplinary team providing referrals to doctors,
nurses, occupational therapists, educators, behaviour
consultants (applied behaviour analysis), psychologists and
parents as dictated by the individual clients needs.
